Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have two computers.

Computer 1: Pavilion dv7. Model DV7T-7000. It has an Intel Core i7 3610QM CPU. (Windows 7)

Computer 2: Envy dv7. Model DV7T-7200. It has an Intel Core i5. (Windows 10)

I have two questions.

Can I take the CPU out of the Pavilion and place it in the Envy?

What is the best CPU, I can buy to place in the Pavilion?

Please let me know if you need more information.

Pavilion Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579

I have a very hard time believing that the Pavilion can use the  i7-3820QM but not the 3840QM? Are the processors listed in the manual only showing what originally came in the computers, or do they show all compatible processors?

Will anyone at HP help me?

Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, you are trying to upgrade the CPU on your computer

I'm here to help!

You can upgrade the CPU of the HP Envy to an i7 but the CPU installed on the HP Pavillion will not be compatible.

The CPUs listed in the service guides are tested with the computer and that's why you do not see the CPU part# of your HP Pavillion in the HP Envy's service guide

Let me know if you have any other questions.

The spare party number is exactly the same for the Intel Core i7-3610QM 2.30-GHz processor (6.0-MB L3 cache, 45 W) 680646-001. Can you please explain what you are talking about? Am I reading the manual incorrectly?

Happy to have you back.

In your last post, you had mentioned about the Intel Quad Core i7-3840QM 2.80-GHz processor. This processor is only compatible with the HP Envy.

But if you are trying to install the part# 680646-001 from your HP Pavilion to HP Envy, you should be able to do that as this part is tested on both the computers.

Thanks!

Have a great day!
