It can support up to 2 x 32 GB of memory for a total of 64 GB.

 

To answer your question...adding an 8 GB memory module to the 4 GB module will work but you will eventually want to replace the 4 GB memory chip with an 8 GB module because...

 

When there are two memory slots and one is empty, the memory runs in the lower performing single data rate (SDR) mode.

 

When you install memory in mismatched capacities (2 GB + 4 GB, 4 GB + 8 GB), the memory still runs in the lower performing SDR mode.

 

If you install memory in matched capacities (2 x 4 GB, 2 x 8 GB), the memory runs in the higher performing dual data rate (DDR) mode.
