Hi everyone,

I have an HP Omen Transcend 16” (model u000nl) with an Intel i9-14900H and 32GB of DDR5 5600MHz RAM (2x16GB), RTX 4070, 2 TB SSD, OLED panel QDH+. I’d like to upgrade it to 64GB (2x32GB), but I’ve come across conflicting information. The official user manual and HP Support both state that the maximum supported memory is 32GB. However, websites like Crucial.com list my model as compatible with up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM. Also in Reddit I saw informations supporting the 64GB upgrade (but for another hardware configuration of the same laptop). Has anyone successfully upgraded this laptop to 64GB? Do you know if it is really possible to do so? I’d really appreciate any insights or confirmations. Thanks in advance!

Hi:

Usually the Crucial memory report is correct and if you saw where someone installed 64 GB in another HP Omen Transcend 16-u1xxx model series notebook, then 64 GB should work in yours as well.

Many of the HP service manuals understate the amount of memory the PC can support.

What you can do to make you feel more confident about upgrading to 2 x 32 GB of memory would be to run this command:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Thank you so much!!! I did what you suggested and it shows me exactly 64GB! So I can upgraded it. Do you know if, by upgrading with 2x32GB do I have to take the same DDR5 with the same data transfer rate (5600 Mhz) than the 2x16 GB 5600 Mhz already installed? Because I read that by upgrading with 2x32Gb I should take a 5200 Mhz to avoid problems (but not sure if it is true). Furthermore, do you think I will loose the computer warranty if I do this upgrade? Thank you very much! 🙂

You're very welcome.

I've never heard of having to install slower speed memory to avoid issues.

You should install the same DDR5 5600 MHz and CL as the memory HP installed.

The CL is probably 46.

I would have thought that installing DDR5-5200 memory may cause problems if the processor is designed to run the memory at 5600 MBPS.

I know you have the service manual which is good, but there is also a service teardown video for the model series which may also be of help.

I contacted twice the official support with no real help. They gave me information I knew already (from the official Omen Manual User, where it is written the 32GB is the maximum memory. Then you arrive @paul_tikkanen and with 1 comment you Answered me 100%. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
