Good day,
My laptop is prime in every way execpt the Graphics card which is outdated.
I think it's a waste and hassle having to sell it and buy an entire new one just to get a better graphics card.
Is there anyway I can upgrade my NVIDIA Quardo 4000M to say Nvidia Geforce GTX 950 or upwards?
Thank you for your time,
Josef

Except ... these are not graphics "cards" -- like those that go into desktop PCs.
Instead, these are graphics boards -- made especially to fit into this laptop.
Look at the pictures again, these are clearly not cards you can buy off the shelf.
Good Luck

These are your options.

NVIDIA Quadro 3000M, N12E-Q1 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory 647177-001
NVIDIA Quadro 4000M, N12E-Q3 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory 647178-001
NVIDIA Quadro 5010M, N12E-Q5 4 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory 647179-001

Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!
I read your post about wanting to upgrade the gaphics on your laptop and wanted to help.
The simple answer is yes -- you CAN upgrade the graphics. But it is not a simple process, as viewing the steps starting with page72 of your Maintance and Service Guide reveals: http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c02847569-1.pdf
You will have to use the part numbers there to order the replacement module: The HP Parts Store | HP Computer Parts | HP Printer Parts
Unless you are experience with disassembilng and reassembling laptops, you would do better to have an HP Service Center do this for you: HP Notebook PCs - Using a Certified HP Service Center to Repair a Notebook PC | HP® Customer Support
Good Luck

Thank you for the detailed information.
Yes it's quite clear what needs to be done and indeed a good option would be to let HP Service Center do it.
But I'm still wondering which modern Graphics card would be compatible.
The manual mentiones:
AMD FirePro M5950 XT-GL 1GB GDDR5 (DP 1.2 and Eyefinity Plus support) 647176-001
NVIDIA Quadro 5010M, N12E-Q5 4 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory 647179-001
NVIDIA Quadro 4000M, N12E-Q3 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory 647178-001
NVIDIA Quadro 3000M, N12E-Q1 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory 647177-001
But these are not a significant upgrade to my desire. And the manual was probably written before the modern new Graphics cards came to market.
So the question still remains, can I upgrade to a more modern graphic card such as the NVIDIA GTX 9XX series?
Kind regards,
Josef

Thank you Reo,
Yes indeed, but these Graphics card mentioned in the manual are not a significant upgrade.
The manual was probably written before the modern Graphics card came out to market so the question still remains whether a more modern Graphics card such as the NVIDIA GTX 9XX series could work.
Any ideas?
Kind regards,
Josef

They are MXM video cards/boards and there is a secondary market for them and you can sometimes install one that is not officially listed in the Manual. However, as stated, it ain't like walking into Best Buy and getting a desktop video card.
This is a good intro to the subject:

Yours is MXM 3.0 and the 5010M would be something of an upgrade but likely not worth $270.

Yes your computer can be upgraded, I would stick with the cards in the manual as the boards were designed and tested as well as the drivers and the bios compatability for your computer. I have done the same upgrade to my own 8760w. I thought it was worth it If your going to do the upgrade the 5010 4gb card is the way to go. This card also requires its own heatsink as well. It The card was really made to go with dreamcolor display full hd . Nvidia drivers
for the card can be downloaded directly from nvidia.
