HP Canada store lists a 90W adapter when I search with my laptop product information which is identified correctly by HP web site

HP Notebook - 15-bs058ca (2SP97UA)

before taking me to parts menus. It list G6H45AA#ABL at $99.99.

As I understand power voltage must be within small tolerances but wattage must me at least original but can be higher. So will the adapter and/or laptop regulate this 90W to the needed power that originally has a 45W adapter?

Oh and why wouldn't HP offer batteries as well? I have found them elsewhere but why not promote brand loyalty?

Thank you

Well, I tried Partsurfer and it allowed me to select Canada and populated the correct fields for the address. Testing only, I stopped at the credit card information. It appears it might work but if any step required me to sign in, which i think it should have by then, that is when the US format caused problems. Why these two HP parts does should need so different doesn't make sense.

It occurred to me after all this to start checking other AC adapters i have. I found a spare adapter with 19v and 4.7A output which matches voltage and is about 90W unloaded. Since most of my equipment is HP, and this is from an old HP G60, the plug is the correct size. Ergo while it has been an education I don't need to buy a new adapter. That was my priority as the laptop is new and I will likely try completing a purchase eventually on Partsurfer for a spare battery.

As for being upset as you mentioned the US part with exchange even would have been less then half of the Canadian $99.99 for the 90W that was in the HP Canada parts store. This meant charging over $50 for a C5 AC plug end. This despite you didn't ask why just made comment about me with no useful purpose. I appreciate the input but perhaps hold the passive-aggressive judgements.

The Service Manual in addition to the 45w adapter, lists these:

HP Smart AC adapter (4.5 mm, non-PFC)
90-W 710413-001
65-W 710412-001

So these will all be the same voltage and the amperage will be diferent to get higher watts (w = v x a).

The important thing is the volts and the plug. If they are the same, as you say, you can use a higher watt adapter but not a lower so the 90w will work.

2 diferent batteries are used:

Battery
4-cell, 41-Whr, 2.8-Ah Li-ion battery 919701-850
3-cell, 31-Whr, 2.8-Ah Li-ion battery 919700-850

The 4 cell is in stock and available for sale at the HP Canada Parts Store:

The 45w adapter is, too:

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the answer you needed.

Hope to keep you loyal knowing the Parts Store is there and has more options than the accessories department on the main web site.

Yes you are right, higher wattage is 100% ok, but it will be bigger (need more room in your bag), heavier, generating more heat, much more expensive

That's why I took the time and effort to track down a place to actually buy the genuine compatible 45w adapter for this User.

I followed your links. If I ignore signing in I can find both parts(though the power adapter does not inclued the AC cord, so is incomplete but a minor annoyance at the moment) I can find both as you claimed.

Whether I search and add to cart before or after signing in ends the same. Originally the site is identified as Canadian. After I sign in which I am forced to do when I want to check out the site changes to US(This by the flag at top of the page).

Now I cannot enter a shipping address as it is only in a US format . Clicking into my profile it identifies me as Canadian, but the Address tab is US format as well, AND the price quoted on the Canadian site is the same but now in US dollars.

I cannot complete the order. I again went to store.hp.com/CanadaStore/Accessories and the only item available is the originally mentioned 90W adapter. I suppose I could order it but now I have seen the adapter sans C5 AC cord(which I probably have here for unused devices) is only $29.64 US and frankly the Canada store offer is a rip off, in my opinion and I have purchased a lot of computer parts....but as established that price is unavailable, and if it was it would probably ship from the US with additional shipping and/or customs fees.

You need to review the availability of those links you sent me. I am frustrated and jaded as well now. I don't know what to think and now wish to find that adapter anywhere else. Any solutions?

I do not work for HP. I'm a volunteer. You said you can get to the parts but if you try to buy them it switches from Canada to US. I can't duplicate that from the US. What it does show me is that the part is in stock. There is a phone number associated with the Parts Store and you can also use the part numbers in an alternate site called HP Partsurfer. Just Google that. As a nonemployee I have no access to the ecommerce backend. Not sure why you are upset about the AC adapter. I wish you the best of luck but I am out of ideas for you.

Well I am happy you got it figured out but be sure that old adapter is the right voltage. I never saw any specific price for the 90w adapter and never had a link to see what you are seeing. So I still don't understand the $99 thing. The battery I found was $80 +/- and the AC adapter under $30. Not sure if that was Canadian or US. Lighten up, Francis.

Ummm "...adapter with 19v and 4.7A output which matches voltage..." From my previous 2nd paragraph.

I'm not sure it's figured out until i can complete a parts order that actually ships from Canada received with no complications. That the original parts link is a Canadian page and switches to US with an acknowledged Canadian Login Is non-sensical. HP would do users a favor in doing something about that.

And yes I do and don't sweat it, you're forgiven.
