HP Pavilion g6-2244sa
Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit)

Hi,

I have an HP Pavilion g6-2244sa laptop and my charger has broken down, I was looking for another charger to buy and I came across a charger that holds 18.5v but my laptop charger that I previously used was 19.5v. Would I be able to use this charger? Will there be a change in how the laptop charges? Will it damage my laptop?

Some HP laptops actually specifiy a 19.5 volt and an 18.5 volt charger as alternates but the devil is in the details. First, of course, does the "new" charger actually fit in the socket? Can we have the HP part numbers of the two chargers and we can quickly say if they are interchangeable? A new 100% compatible charger can be had for maybe $15 so I can't see any need to run a risk of damaging the laptop.

But does this mean if I buy a charger of 18.5v it will damage my laptop?

As I said, the devil is in the details. Depends on the model of laptop which you still have not provided.
