HP HSTNN-IX01 Docking Station

Hello. I have an HP HSTNN-IX01 Docking Station and I don’t have an 18.5v AC ADAPTER, rather a 19v AC ADAPTER.

I checked that the port matches and it does match, but I notice a voltage difference.

The Docking Station’s input is 18.5v, the AC ADAPTER’s output is 19v.

I was wanting to know if using a 19v AC ADAPTER will harm the Docking Station, or my laptop (in this case, HP

Compaq 6715b) in any way.

The AC ADAPTER (19v) does match the laptop’s input (19v), not the Docking Station’s input (18.5v).

Thank you.

Devices supplied with power from ac power adapters are always fine with being withing 10% of the required voltage.

19v is indeed within 10% of the voltage requirements  of both devices, so it is OK it to use as a power supply without worrying about damaging the device.

That is  also the case with any  electrical or electronic device.

Take a look at the tiny label label of any AC device in your household that plugs directly into the household outlet you will see even a greater range will not damage the device (105-130 VAC).

I do notice that your HP Compaq 6715b laptop is not listed in the compatible products list for the HP409454-001 HSTNN-IX01 port replicator docking station, so it may or may not work. If the connector on the bottom of the laptop fits the one on the dock, it will probably work.
