I've got a USA model (17-f049nr; Win 8.1) Pavilion laptop with a dead keyboard.  The keyboard is tightly integrated with the upper deck on this model, so by far the easiest replacement is an entire matching upper deck.   I've found one with French Canadian keys. The only HP part number I can find on mine is on the keyboard cable -765807-001, whereas the Fr-Ca model is 765807-DB1.  I've seen some compatibility information on parts reseller sites that indicate it should fit my model.  The layout is the same except the the right-side Ctrl key on my model is replaced with a duplicate of the \ key, and there are a bunch of additional blue symbols on some of the keys that are absent on the US keyboard.

Can I expect this Fr-Ca keyboard to be usable with my machine?  Is that just a setting, is a new driver needed?  A new Windows install?

Installing that keyboard shouldn't be a problem at all.

You'll just have to get used to the differences in some of the keys.

The keyboard is not supposed to be removable and is sold as part of the top cover and that appears to be the correct part number according to chapter 3 of the service manual.

Shouldn't need drivers, shouldn't need to reinstall Windows.
