Hi, my son has a ZBook workstation G1 with a 250 GB SSD. I was wonderful nog if I can upgrade the SSD to a 500gb Samsung 860 EVO. Would it fit / be compatible?

Yes. See p. 52 of the Manual:

 

Manual 

 

The 2.5 inch kind will just replace the previous SSD or HDD. There is also a slot for a 2242 form factor mSATA mSSD like this:

 

mSATA mSSD 128 gigsmSATA mSSD 128 gigs

They make 2 different 860 Evos: an M.2 "gumstick" and a 2.5 inch regular laptop hard drive form factor disk. Which do you want to install and is it a 15 inch or a 17 inch Zbook G1?

It is a 15 inch. And I thought the non gum stick one. So the 2.5 inch one I guess.
