Hi:

The  WD1600BEVT drive you have will not fit because it is 9.5 mm in thickness.

Hi:

In order to answer your question, I would need to know the full model number of your notebook and the full model number of the hard drive.

Use this guide to find the notebook model info.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108

Hard drives come in different thicknesses (9.5mm & 7.0mm) and some newer notebooks can only use the thinner drives.

HD is WD1600BEVT

Laptop - which I'm considering buying - is either

Pavilion 11-n008TU X360, Intel® Celeron® Processor N2820 (2.13GHz, 1M L2 Cache)
Pavilion 11-n009TU X360, Intel® Pentium® Processor N3520 (2.17GHz, 2M L2 Cache)
Pavilion 11-n010TU X360, Intel® Pentium® ProcessorN3520 (2.17GHz, 2M L2 Cache)

Thanks so much for your help

You're very welcome.

They all take the 7.0 mm size hard drive, so if the 160 GB drive you have is 2.5" x 7.0 mm, it should work.

Here is the link to the service manual, which is applicable to all 3 models.

Chapter 3 has the list of parts.

The notebooks originally came with 500 GB hard drives, but if you just plan on clean installing Windows, the smaller 160 GB size won't matter.

Thanks a lot mate.

I'm about to submit a new question, as I move on to next stage of attempted DIY HD replacement, if you are a sucker for punishment ... all the best, if not.

You're very welcome.

Since you asked...Here's what I would do.

If you were willing to live with a 160 GB hard drive size, do yourself a favor and install a solid state drive.

They provide much better performance than a mechanical hard drive, and may be more reliable since they have no moving parts.

I use the 500 GB size of this drive and love it, and you can also get it in a 250 GB size which would cost less.

It will fit right in place of the dead hard drive in one of those notebooks you are interested in.
