Can I use a gen 4 Nvme Samsung 980 pro in my 8th gen i7 Hp spectre x360.
currently I’ve got a toshiba KXG50ZNV 512 gb nvme
planning of Purchasing the Samsung 980 pro gen 4
have a prize difference of hardly 50 $ between the gen 3 and 4 thus confused about the same .
would be grateful if someone could help me out in deciding what would be the best for me .

Hi:
Your notebook's NVMe slot is only PCIe Gen 3, so a PCIe Gen 4 SSD is only going to run at the Gen 3 speed, and not reach its advertised maximum sequential read/write speeds.
So, if you plan on transferring the SSD to a newer PC a few years from now, you may want to invest in a Gen 4 SSD, such as the 980 Pro,
If not, then go with the regular Samsung 980 PCIe Gen 3.
