I have been recently experiencing issues with the SATA HDD slot in my laptop, it struggles to read HDD's, so I got a 500GB M.2 SATA SSD. I want to know if my HP 15-da2003ni can work using only the M.2 SATA SSD and no HDD in the SATA slot.

Yes, you can use only the M2 slot If you wish.
You can then use the HHD as a storage drive If you like.

Sure. There are a few things you need to do to set the bios to boot from your new drive, if you are using a different port .
