I want to add a solid state drive to my HP 17z-ca000 laptop in addition to the 1 TB hard drive, then use it to boot Windows. I have moved Windows 10 to SSD from a HDD on a desktop. Will this work for my laptop, too?

Hi,
Yes, you can insert an M2 SATA3 or much faster M2 PCIe NVMe SSD. There is no limit to capacity.
You can then move the OS to the SSD (clone) or reinstall the OS on the SSD.

In boot menu you can then make the SSD the boot drive. You might need to disable secure boot in BIOS.
On page 46 of service manual you can see the steps to install the drive

Hope it helps,
David
