HP Spectre x360 15-df1x series 10th gen
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i have laptop HP Spectre x360.

10th generation i7. It has probably Gen 3 NVMe Ssd, storage 512 gb.

Now I want to upgrade my laptop storage. Can I add Samsung NVMe M.2 980 1TB which is 4th Gen.

My question is, would my laptop bios and mother support the 4th Gen NVMe M.2. ?

please advise.

@DrFaiss

NVMe SSDs are backward compatible -- so a Gen 4 will work, but be limited to the bus speeds currently supported.

I have a Gen 4 SSD in my desktop, even though it only supports through Gen 2 -- and it works fine, just not nearly at the speed of a Gen 4 bus.

Hi, @DrFaiss

Please note that there are two versions of the Samsung 980.

The Pro, which is PCIe 4.0...

980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD 500GB Memory & Storage - MZ-V8P500B/AM | Samsung US

...and the plain 980, which is PCIe 3.0...

980 SSD | Consumer SSD | Samsung Semiconductor

Hi:

I need to know the actual model of the i7 processor your notebook has, not the notebook specs.

You should be able to find that in the system information window.

I hope that be clearer now

Yes, that is the information I needed regarding the processor.

Here is the link to the Intel processor specs for the processor your notebook has.

Intel® Core™ i7-10510U Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.90 GHz)

It indicates the PCIe generation is only 3.0, so I don't know how much more speed you are going to get from a PCIe 4x4 NVMe SSD.

but would my laptop support the WD SN850 which is 4th Gen Nvme m2?

thats my actual question. And the compatibility between the 2?
