My laptop has already installed 4×1 gb ram in 1st slot.

Not at all.
The only downside to doing that is the memory runs in the lower performing single channel mode instead of the higher performing dual channel mode you get when you install matching capacities of memory (2 x 4 GB, 2 x 8 GB...).
The plus side is you will have 12 GB of memory instead of 8.

Hi:
Just buy another 4 GB memory chip and add it to the 4 GB one in there now.
