I open my laptop for fan cleaning and notice there's ports for backlit keyboard. i also found out the motherboard on HP 255 G8 7M6F8AA has exactly the same as HP 15s-DW, just has different processor.

Yes, it is possible to change your keyboard to a backlit one on a compatible HP laptop if it has the necessary ports and supports the feature. Since you've mentioned that your HP 255 G8 7M6F8AA has the same motherboard as an HP 15s-DW, which includes ports for a backlit keyboard, you should be able to make the switch as long as the backlit keyboard is compatible with your laptop model.

Before proceeding, ensure the following:

  1. Compatibility: Verify that the backlit keyboard you are considering is compatible with your HP 255 G8 model.
  2. Laptop Preparation: Perform the installation in a static-free environment, with the laptop powered off and the battery removed.
  3. Warranty Considerations: Keep in mind that opening your laptop and installing a new keyboard might void your warranty.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
