HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eg0026nv (4J8V6EA)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have this laptop (HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eg0026nv (4J8V6EA)), and i am wondering if i can charge it through the usb c port. I want to get a 45watt power delivery power bank, to charge it on the go, i just want to make sure that it will work and charge through that port though. On device specifications by hp it sais the port is: 1 USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge);
Does anyone know if its a thunderbolt port? (from my understanding its not, although i was lead to believe that at first, and i think it even said it on the retailers website). And even if its not a thunderbolt port, can i charge my laptop from it or not? Thanks!

I doubt it.

The port being Thunderbolt is one of the requirements and yours is not.

From the specifications section of the Maintenance & Service guide

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06913637.pdf

"USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (supports data transfer, power delivery, HP Sleep & Charge; DisplayPort 1.4 out up to
4096 × 2304 @ 60 Hz through adapter; HDMI 2.0 out up to 3840 × 2160 @ 60 Hz with HDCP 2.2 through
adapter)"

One of the problems is that usually only laptop USB Type-C power adapters have the power needed to charge the battery properly.

45 Watts and  65W are what the OEM power adapters supply with the HP Smart AC adapters that your laptop was meant to be charged with.

Just so i can understand, the problem is that the laptop cannot receive energy from that port? So it cant charge from anywhere else other than the dc port? So if i was to connect it to an outlet through a usb c cable and a powerful enough brick would it not charge either?
About the wattage, i checked the charging brick and it sais 45watt on it (19.5V at 2.31A), and the powerbank for example is also 45watt so i imagine it would work if it can be charged through that port no?
Lastly, if i got one of those usb-c to dc cables, could i connect my laptop to the 45watt power bank through the standard charging port and would it charge?
Thanks again.

The problem is that the USB Type-C port in your laptop is for data transport only.

Probably not. It could be risky to try that, but it is your property.
You can try whatever you convince your self that may or may not work.

Hi again and thanks,

the above image is the answer from hp support through messenger. I also found some similar cases on the hp forums, with other laptops whose users were able to charge them through the usb-c port, and i checked their laptops specifications, and their port is similar to mine, non thunderbolt, usb-c 3.1 or 3.2 with data transfer and power delivery and hp sleep and charge.
So i guess the question is are you sure the laptop cant receive power from this usb-c port? It does say the port supports power delivery, its not data transfer only. And from some research i found out that if a port supports power delivery, its bi-directional right? so it can both charge and be charged through that port. Is that correct?

Thanks again.

HP Subject Matter Experts, who are HP employees  gave HP Experts  advice on the subject.

We were told that a laptop that has a USB Type-C port Thunderbolt and power delivery  but was not delivered with a USB Type-C power adapter may or may not charge through the port. We were not exactly pleased with the answer, but HP enables features  and option in laptops normally within tiers.
