I have a Pavilion 15-ab153nr with an ATA Hard drive that I am getting imminent HDD failure warnings from. Can this notebook be paired with an SSD or should I just scrap it and start again.

Thanks for the information links. I had figured it out when I finally found the Maintenance Manual at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04775872. Typo's in most documentation states ATA drives instead of SATA III drives. I was actually surprised to find the manual as it goes against alot of other companies trying to stop diy repairs. KUDO's to them and you for replying so quickly.

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04773160
Your machine does not have M.2 slot for additional storage. You can replace existing 2.5" HDD with 2.5" SSD using
https://www.crucial.com/products/ssd/crucial-mx500-ssd
https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/860evo/
Or similar from reputable vendors.
One example (compatible drive, can use smaller/larger capacity)
