My laptop has an m.2 sata ssd 128gb. can I upgrade it with an nvme m.2 ssd?

Hi:

 

You'll be fine with a NVMe SSD.  

 

The slot fits both, and either would work.

I came across an interesting article the other day, and had no clue that NVMe drives run the battery down faster than the SATA ones do.

The product number is Product number   3WW57UA#ABA . I know it has an m.2 sata ssd already but the manual says it can support it but I thought it might not be compatible because they have different "keys"

thanks much. only problem is I dont know how to migrate the data easily from my hd to a new one/ would I need to get an adapter? I researched it already but so far it looks like id have to buy an adapter unless I pay bestbuy to do it.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with that.

 

I would be either clean installing W10 on the new NVMe SSD or trying the HP cloud recovery client tool on it, and then reinstalling any additional programs and files I had added previous to swapping out the drive.

You can use the media creation tool to clean install W10 if for some reason, the cloud recovery tool doesn't work.
