My laptop is the ProBook 4331s with the Intel core i5-2450M (sandybridge)

Is it able to upgrade to a 3rd gen CPU? With the same socket, same TDP. I tired to fine a compatiblity list but all there is are the CPUs from the release of my model to older CPUs.

Bios version: 68SRR ver. F.63

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I would say it is not possible as the HM65 chipset does not support many 3rd gen CPUs as you can see in the list below:

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/HM65_Express.html

i5-3610ME

i7-3517UE - AV8063801149402
i7-3517UE, L3 4 MB, Turbo 2.8 GHz
i7-3555LE - AV8063801116903
i7-3555LE, L3 4 MB, Turbo 3.2 GHz
i7-3610QE - AW8063801118306
i7-3610QE, L3 6 MB, Turbo 3.3 GHz
i7-3612QE - AV8063801149203
i7-3612QE, L3 6 MB, Turbo 3.1 GHz
i7-3615QE - AV8063801117503
i7-3615QE, L3 6 MB, Turbo 3.3 GHz

However the above processors will not be compatible with the BIOS of the HP notebook. So there is no real upgrade available as going to the i7-2620M would not make much difference.

Hope it helps,

David
