Can one mix RAM modules with different speeds (new 4GB 2666, with existing 4GB, 2400) to give total RAM of 8GB?

Yes and it will even run in dual channel mode most of the time. Would be easier to give a specific answer if we knew the model numbers of the original and new memory modules. Factors other than speed can figure into this.

Thanks for the quick response and info! 

 

Will try to get the spec of the original RAM module (2400) and the one I took out of a HP15... to upgrade its RAM to 16GB!
