HP Notebook - 15-da0299tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi HP team,

I'm having trouble updating the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver.

In Device Manager, it shows a yellow warning icon. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, and I see two driver versions available:
- Version 19.5.35.26 (2019)
- Version 19.5.35.54 (2020)

But even after selecting the latest version manually, the yellow warning stays.

How can I properly remove the old driver and install the latest one?

Thanks in advance!

@Ak23_, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're seeing a yellow warning icon for the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad in Device Manager on your HP Notebook - 15-da0299tu, even after trying to update the driver. Let's walk through a clean installation process to resolve this.

Step 1: Uninstall the Existing Driver Completely

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click on Synaptics SMBus TouchPad > Uninstall device.
  4. In the pop-up, check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device", then click Uninstall.
  5. If there are duplicate entries, uninstall them too.
  6. Restart your notebook.

Step 2: Download and Install the Latest Driver from HP

  1. Go to the official HP driver page for your model: Official HP® Support
  2. Under Driver – Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices, download the latest Synaptics TouchPad Driver (e.g., version 19.5.35.54).
  3. Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Restart your PC.

Step 3: Clean Up Hidden or Conflicting Devices (Optional)

If the yellow warning persists:

  • In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
  • Remove any grayed-out or duplicate Synaptics entries.
  • Then reinstall the driver again.

Step 4: Use HP Support Assistant (Optional)

  1. Download and install HP Support Assistant: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
  2. Open it and go to My Devices > Updates to auto-detect and install the correct drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
