As a touch typist I find the touchpad intrusive.  I want to disable it completely.  None of the online help pages show the screens of my system, so they don't help.  It appears that the touchpad is an Elan Clickpad.  I have tried removing it in the mouse menu, but not removing the driver.  However, after a restart I find it is here again.  There must be some way to switch it off - removing it completely would not be a problem either.  Can anyone help?

Since then I've used the Windows Administrative Tools to remove the Elan Clickpad including the driver.  It then demands a restart - after which the Clickpad is back 😞

@AnneW

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

To disable the Touch pad:

  • Press Windows+r on your keyboard.
  • Type devmgmt.msc and press enter on your keyboard.
  • Expand the category "Mouse and other Pointing Devices" and right-click on the driver for the Elan Touchpad and select Disable Driver .
  • Restart your device.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
