The SSD that was delivered with my laptop (a Western Digital PC SN810 NVMe gen 4x4) suddenly died after 2.5 years. I tried to replace it with a NM790 M.2 2280 PCle Gen 4x4 NVMe SSD and reinstall windows but windows can't find the new storage. I tried to look up if the BIOS can find the storage, but in the BIOS there is no information at all about the storage. I have BIOS version F.24. The system diagnostics does detect an SSD storage but does not specify which one, only that it passes all tests.

This all has me a bit confused. Is the storage not found by the BIOS or by windows? Does anyone know how I can be certain the BIOS can find the storage?

Thank you for thinking along!

Dear Paul,

The full model number and product number are Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fb0001AX (72L78PA) I think.

Hi, Bram:

That product number indicates that you have a PC with an AMD processor and those should not need any special drivers to install Windows.

On some PC's the drive does not show up in the BIOS.  I don't know why that is.

What I suggest you do is to make a bootable USB recovery drive with the HP cloud recovery tool and another Windows PC that will return the new drive to its 'out of the box' condition as the original drive came.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.

You can download the software from the Microsoft store.

HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store

Since you have to use the utility on another PC, you will need to enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed.

Your PC's product number is 72L78PA#ABJ.
