HP Envy 5530 printer

I am trying to insert an SD card into my Envy 5530 printer.  I purchased a MicroSDHC card with adapter.  The card will not go into the slot to the left of the paper tray.

It is worth knowing that SD and microSD slots are keyed so that you cannot accidentally insert a card upside down unless you apply a crazy amount of force. On the full size SD card, this keying is done by the 'cut off' corner of the card that you can see at the top of the picture I posted. Sometimes you do have to be a little firm when inserting the card, especially with new connectors. The contacts have to apply a fair amount of pressure to the card to make reliable contact, but this contact pressure can make the insertion force a little higher than you might expect.

I'm glad you got it working.

Does the same card+adapter go into a different device with an SD card slot?

Is it possible you're trying to put it in upside down? If the memory card's label is pointing to the left right now, try flipping it over so the card's label is on the right hand side, and check if it fits in OK after that.

Hi Chris,

The SD goes into my HP computer without a problem.  It really appears that there is not enough room in the printer SD slot.  There are silver like teeth 1/4" from surface but slot is clearly labeled "SD"

It looks like this printer might use full size SD cards and, judging by your description, it sounds like it has the sort of slot where an inserted card sticks out much of the way.

If I am correct, your micro SDHC card will work with an inexpensive adapter. You might even have got one of these in the package with your micro SDHC card. If not, typing "SD microSD adapter" into your favourite search engine should produce loads of hits. I would stick to name brands such as Sandisk, though these are simple passive adapters.

The picture below shows a micro SDHC card being inserted into the Sandisk brand adapter.

From the first post here, I'd thought they were already using such an adapter, as it came free with the microSD card?

OP - you didn't yet mention if you had definitely already tried flipping the card 180 degrees and double checking it doesn't fit properly that way round? I've only found a video with a 5510 and an SD memory card, but on that model at least, your SD memory card should be inserted with the label on the other side, away from the metal teeth you mentioned.

Screenshot isn't uploading right now, apologies.

(It would have been taken from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iKTIWf7LZM , again it is a different model)

As you say @ChrisM_L , the label side of the card goes away from the metal contacts ("teeth"). It does indeed sound as if the card came with an adapter, though I hope the picture I posted is useful to the original poster.

Many thanks to everyone.  Once I saw the photo of the SD disk and I was sure I was using the correct thing, I applied a little extra pressure and the disk went in.  I guess I was a little too timid 🙂

Again thank you to everyone who responded to my dilema.
