Got warning that battery needed to be replaced. Removed ALL screws from bottom cover; THERE ARE ONLY 11. Only 1 middle screw, not 2 as stated in the manual HP posted for this model (15t-w100, Product number: L8R68AV). Top cover will NOT lift up because of a peg that won't release that is below the space between the F and G keys on the keyboard. This peg is NOT associated with a screw on the bottom cover, as stated above, there is only 1 middle screw (between quote and return key). There is an outline of a hole for a screw below the space between the F and G keys on the bottom cover, but no screw cover and nothing to undo there. Yet, that is the point where the top cover is stuck. Do not want to force top cover. Every manual I can find says there are 2 middle screws on bottom cover, yet mine only has 1. Cannot find a manual specific for the 15t-w100. Was this a design error for this model? How am I to remove the top cover without forcing it from that peg in the middle (between F and G keys)? Have searched HP Support on YouTube, Googled the problem/model number, and searched the HP Community Forum and cannot find ANY reference explaining how to deal with this issue. I have the new battery and have to get the top cover off to replace it. Please provide only specific responses to this exact stated problem; generic, thoughtless answers that simply quote sections of manual are not helpful. I have looked everywhere for help.

Hi NeedyOne, I see that the HP Support Agent gave you a generic, thoughtless response, as you had expected you'd receive. That's too bad, but typical of a company who just wants to make more $$ on a super simple fix for an out-of-warranty device. Before
After
I bought the same model of HP Envy a few years back used and had the exact same problem you had. As it turned out, what you are seeing as the 'outline of a hole for a screw' on the bottom cover is actually a very thin vinyl cover over the oblong screw hole. Mine looked the same way because the vinyl cover on one of the holes was missing; thus, it looked different from the other one & appeared as if no screw was even present there (I even had my grandson look at it with his 15-year old eyes and he said there was no hole there, just a solid case - so I totally get your confusion!).
Get a very thin screwdriver or use the tip of an X-acto knife and dig into the edge of that oblong cover and it will pop up. Then, you'll be good to go - all 12 screws will be visible. Pictures are attached to help you visualize.
Hope this helps!

Solver2, thanks so much for the solution. I knew I had to be missing something simple and you made it so easy to figure out what I was doing wrong. I cannot understand why the HP Support Agent couldn't have just told me this. I guess you're right about the corporate money-making machine. Glad the HP Support Community was there to help me with my beginner's mistake.
