Product: HP 15-f019ct laptop
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

Question: can the laptop be continuously connected to ac power without damaging the battery even if the unit is in power off mode?

Yes it is not a problem. The battery is "smart", it has a controller chip inside that keeps it from charging past full.
