Hi,
Can anyone suggest work-around to connect monitor with USB-C port (may be I need an adaptor to connect with monitor and in-built USB C-port). Looks like existing USB Type C port not compatible for display
(PS: with HDMI Monitor connection it produces intermittent connect/disconnect Beep sound )
Appreciate any suggestion

@PP1119, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a display issue on your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15. Based on your description, here’s what you need to know about the USB-C port and some effective workarounds to resolve the issue.
🧠 Key Insight: USB-C Port Type
The USB-C port on your model does not support video output (DisplayPort over USB-C). It is only for data transfer and charging, which is why connecting a USB-C to HDMI or USB-C to DisplayPort cable doesn’t work. So, you are correct—the USB-C port on your laptop is not compatible for display output.
✅ Workaround Suggestions
1. Use the HDMI Port
If you're experiencing intermittent beeping with the HDMI connection, it could be due to a cable, driver, or port issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:
- Try a Different HDMI Cable: Some cables can be faulty or not fit securely.
- Test with a Different Monitor: If possible, try connecting to a different monitor or use a different HDMI port on the same monitor.
- Update Display Drivers: Go to Device Manager and check for updates for your display drivers, or use the HP Support Assistant to ensure you have the latest drivers.
- Use a Powered HDMI Splitter or Signal Booster: If the HDMI port seems weak, a powered splitter or signal booster can help stabilize the connection.
2. Use a USB Display Adapter (External Video Card)
Since the USB-C port won’t work for display, consider using a USB-A port with a USB to HDMI adapter:
- Look for a USB to HDMI adapter that uses DisplayLink technology. A good option is the Plugable USB 3.0 to HDMI Adapter, which can support 1080p or even 4K displays.
🔧 Additional Tip for HDMI Beep Issue
If the HDMI monitor causes connect/disconnect beep sounds:
- Open Device Manager and navigate to Sound, video and game controllers. Disable “HDMI Audio” under your GPU.
- Alternatively, go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback Devices, set your speakers as the default device, and disable the monitor output.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
