So I have a Hp Pavilion Notebook s/n: [edited]
Windows 10 64bit
Intel Core i7-6500U
and out of nowhere my usb ports all just stopped working and when I went to update or reinstall the device drivers as every single help forum tells you to do, I noticed that I do not have the 'Universal Serial Bus Controller Driver' tree in device manger at all, it's not hidden or anything it's just gone and instead I found under 'Other Devices' something called 'USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller' with an error sign on it and when I double click it it says "(code 28) Drivers are not installed" and also "There are no compatible drivers for this device". When I tried to automatically search for updates to it, it tells me that it could not find drivers for the device.
I have tried literally every single thing I could find on the internet like deleting it and restarting my computer, using both hp and windows updating and trouble shooting thing, checking for driver updates on both hp and intel websites, updating the bios, restoring my computer to a time where it did work, turning off fast start up in windows, stared it down, everything. It's like the usb drivers are just gone and I can't find anywhere to reinstall them. I've spent an entire day looking for something for the love of god someone please help me with this

Thanks for replying,
I haven't made any changes to the software or hardware it just simply stopped working in the middle of me watching youtube videos, and as I've said refering to the article you linked me; I cannot do anything in that as the problem is that I didn't have the USB Controller tree showing up at all in Device Manager so I was unable to reinstall or upgrade the USB drivers
However the problem has already been fixed by reseting my laptop and reinstalling windows. I think it maybe was a windows update that screwed me however if that was the case you would think that restoring to a previous point when it was working would help but it didn't, so I don't know what caused it.
