HP 14 inch Laptop PC 14-d6000 (B0ST0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Over 3 days dealing with AI chat session, with no end in sight for a failed fan on laptop to getting it repaired under warranty. Cannot even use it - because it shuts down due to overheating.

I am at the point - I am better off paying an authorized repair shop to fix - if it only a simple replacement of the fan.

Hi @dnfoley,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out, and we truly understand how frustrating this situation must be, especially when the system is overheating to the point where it cannot be used. We sincerely appreciate your patience so far. For your HP 14-inch Laptop PC 14-d6000, a failed or malfunctioning fan can definitely cause the behavior you’re describing.

Let’s first confirm the hardware condition

Step 1: Run Hardware Diagnostics (Fan & Thermal)

  1. Turn OFF the laptop
  2. Turn it ON and tap F2 repeatedly
  3. Go to:
    • Component Tests → Fan Test / System Test → Extensive Test
  4. Let the test complete and check for:
    • Any Failure ID or error code

Step 2: Perform a BIOS Restore (Important)

This helps reset thermal controls and fan behavior:

  1. Turn OFF the laptop
  2. Press and hold Windows + B
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds
  4. Release the Power button, but keep holding Windows + B
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions

What this tells us

  • If the fan test fails → confirms a hardware issue (fan needs replacement)
  • If no errors, but overheating continues → could still be fan or thermal hardware related

About Repair / Service

If it is confirmed as a hardware issue:

  • We can absolutely help you arrange service under warranty
  • Or guide you to an HP Authorized Service Center for a quick fix (fan replacement is typically straightforward)

Our Recommendation

Before spending out of pocket, we suggest:

  • Run the F2 diagnostics and share the result with us
  • This helps ensure:
    • Proper documentation
    • Faster warranty handling (if applicable)

We’re here to make this easier for you and help get your system back to working condition as quickly as possible.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

See photos taken - fan failed after everything you've indicated to do.

Can you assist with getting this expedited for warranty replacement locally?

Up to 5 days and on to my 9th person through the chat session - 10 if you include this community discussion. No direction on how to get this fixed. I have been purchasing HP computer for over 25 years never an issue - and now a failure during warrant and a failure of support to get this resolved.

Hi @dnfoley,

Thank you for your response.

The shared failure ID is showing an issue with the Fan.

Please share the country/region in a private message.
