That would make it almost not work it to upgrade, considering the risks. Highest supported CPU with 800FSB seems to be T6600. But thanks for all the help my friend ! Really appreciate it and these have been exciting few hours. Theoretically, it still would be worth changing CPU but practically since never done that better won't risk of breaking it since have to take it all apart. Anyway, have a good day ^_-! Thanks again for everything!

{{I have the P8700 in my HP 6930p Elitebook business class notebook.  It is pretty darn good.

Mine would also take the P9600 according to its service manual.

It's all about the microcodes in the BIOS. }}

Hi Paul I have the same laptop with you and recently  because of  continuous restarts after 4 secs technicians verdict was 50e and new processor - So im thinking of  1) fixing my self 2)upgrading once I change my self and ordering through internet , but I read the BIOS comment you made and im little sceptic now.  You believe if I put higher than 8700 for example 9400 or 9600 that might not work because of some incompatibility of BIOS? regards CB

Hi:

According to the 6930p service manual, they have added support for the T9800 and T9900 processors.

The problem is that I don't see from any of the BIOS release notes that support was ever added for new processors.

Since I never upgraded my processor, I can't provide any useful information other than what the service manual indicates.
