Hello,
I have the HP laptop - 17-by0024nf consisting of:
Operating system: Windows 11 Home 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i5 8250U @ 1.60GHz Kaby Lake-U/Y 14nm technology
RAM: 16.0 GB Channel-Dual DDR4 (17-17-17-39)
Motherboard: HP 84CB (U3E1)
Graphics: Generic PnP Monitor (1600x900@60Hz)
Intel UHD Graphics 620 (HP)
2048 MoATI Radeon 520 Series (HP)
Storage: 931GB TOSHIBA MQ04ABF100 (SATA)
119GB LITEON CV8-8E128-HP (SATA (SSD))
Windows is installed on the SSD drive which is connected to the only M.2 port of this computer.
I want to replace this SSD drive with a 500 GB SSD.
I want to know if I can instead install an Nvme SSD on which I would clone Windows 11 so that it is always the bootable SSD and at the same time keep the TOSHIBA disk as storage?
And what changes would need to be made to the BIOS for this?
I would like to point out that I found nothing in the technical documentation (HP 17 Laptop PC-Maintenance-c08119882) for my computer which was sent to me by HP French support.
Sincerely
Denis GUILLAUME

I have also found very little documentation about the M.2 and if it supports NVME in addition to SATA
I noticed that crucial sells m.2 nvme for your system.
https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp-compaq/hp-17-by0024nf
I have had both good and bad experience replacing M.2 SATA-3 type ssd with M.2 NVME. It can depend on the motherboard version. If there is a problem crucial has a good return policy is all I can add.

THANKS, This is also what I noted in Crucial but I do not prefer to try the experience without reliable knowledge. I also read that the SSD NVME could not work in common with an HDD SATA disc. I may expect an answer from an HP technician who may be able to answer me on this forum. Sincerely

I recommend you look at the original offerings (options) for your laptop
Go to the below site and enter your serial number
https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer/
For example, if the M.2 can be optane then it can speed up your HDD.
If you replace the HDD with at 2.5in SDD then no need for optane memory.
If an option was NVME then you should have no problem.
If no NVME is listed then you need to experiment or use a search engine to see if any other user had tried mixing the two.
Before doing anything make sure you have cloud backup or a backup image of the boot drive.
