Hello, so i bought this Pavilion 17-cd0005nq a couple of years ago and did not need a backlit keyboard, but i have changed work and i cannot carry my external keyboard with me anymore, and i was wondering if i could replace my existent keyboard with a backlit one, and if so, what keyboards are compatible? i'm assuming i would need a keyboard from an omen or a pavilion with the green light, but a little help would be greatly appreciated.

It can be done. If you look here at the maintenance guide- http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06367545.pdf it shows on page 15 3 tops with keyboard built in. I'm assuming yours is Ghost White without backlit. Order the Ghost White with backlight.
Then follow the procedures to take apart the laptop and replace the top cover/keyboard assembly. Not for the faint of heart, as you'll have to basically take the whole thing apart. Tedious, but if you have some DIY skills you can do it.
