Hi,

When I plug my laptop in it charges for about 10 seconds, then disconnects.  It was absolutely fine yesterday, but this morning when I started to use the laptop I noticed the problem.

I can't think of anything that has changed. I did close the laptop last night with football manager still running, but thats never been a problem before.

I cant think of anything that's causing the problem really. It's a built in battery so I can't remove it and replace it, do I try a new charger? Or is it going to be something about the laptop itself?

I have noticed that the laptop seems to charge fine when shut down, but if its powered up it doesnt work.

Thanks!

HI@wlauro1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that the battery is not getting charged.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you update the BIOS and the chipset driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

If you continue facing the issue, then restore the BIOS defaults and check.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Backup and save important information on your computer, and then turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer, and then click F10, until the BIOS opens.
  3. Under the Main tab, use the up and down arrow keys to select Restore Defaults. ...
  4. Select Yes.
  5. Under the Main tab, use the up and down arrow keys to select Save Changes and Exit.
  6. When prompted, click Yes to save changes and exit.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!

Update - ive managed to reset the BIOS but it hasnt helped. When I plug it in, the laptop charges for 10-15 seconds before disconnecting again.

Hi@wlauro1,

We have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to check to get to know its hardware is faulty, not a software issue.

I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.
