HP Recommended

I just bought this laptop from a friend as a temporary personal and Business use until I'm able to afford one I need AND want. So a little wear and tear is expected. It came with an onn universal laptop charger. When I went to charge it I noticed something in the charging hole of the laptop. I took what looked like fuzz and paper in one out and attempted charging it. It. Won't. Charge. Before I removed the debris it was charging fine. Now the light will be on but it won't be charging. A couple of hours and the piece that plugs into the laptop doesn't fit. Ani ideas or solutions??
