Hi!
I believe my charger is dead. It was an original charger (19,5v 11,8a) with model HSTNN-DA12S. It’s been quite hard to find an exact replacement - especially with the current situation as it is, but I’ve managed to track down a charger with nearly the same model number: HSTNN-DA12. So not the slim version, which I believe the S stands for. But it has the same voltage and ampere.
Thinking of buying it but will this charger work for my laptop?
Thanks!
Best,
David

Hi David,
Yes you can use that charger. The original one had part number 693706-001 and can be found
Example:
However, if the one you found is cheaper you can go with that one.
You say the battery is not charging. Have you tried updating the BIOS?
Does the charging LED come on? What color? Is the computer now completely "dead"?
Let me know,
David

Hi!
Thanks for the reply, good to know that it can be used!
The internal battery has no charge left, yeah, so it’s technically “dead”. When I plugged in the charger, the charging led light never responded - was completely dark. However, I know the led worked because when it shut down due to the battery almost being depleted, the led light flashed white to I suppose signal low battery levels. Now however it’s completely gone.
I did manage to do a battery scan and it came back saying CALIBRATE_NO_AC on the logic status, and the test said Failed in red text.
I also tried to hold in the power button for a minute in case it needed some form of reboot, but that didn’t work.
Didn’t try updating the BIOS since I heard that should never be done without having the computer plugged in.
Do you think it could be a software issue behind it?
Thanks for the help!
/David

If you bring the charger to a local computer technician or electric store. I am sure they can test it for you and see if it working. Or maybe even a friend has a multimeter to test it.
The HSTNN-LA12 will work.
Hope it helps,
David
