Pavilion

I have an older HP Pavilion (purchased in 2014) and it had been functioning normally up until the last few months. All of the sudden, it just decided to not charge anymore. I'm very certain that the problem is not with the computer itself, but the charging cable. I ordered a replacement cable. That seemed to fix the issue, up until the other day, when I noticed that it too was not charging my computer. I'm not sure if this is a normal problem, or just my problem, but if anyone has any ideas on why these cables keep failing and any more permanent solutions, I am all ears.

I will update with the correct OS as soon as I can.

It would help us if you identified your notebook with the complete product name or product number.

Take a look at the bottom of your notebook amongst the tiny lettering and locate the ProdID.

The ProdID is the first portion of the product number and is the simplest means of identfying your notebook.

If the installed main battery is the one the notebook was delivered with, it is actually more likely to be the candidate for failure after almost five years of use. Batteries beneral only last fr two to five years.  Batteries only have warranty coverage for one year.

If the power/charge LED comes on when the power adapter is connected to the notebook, it means that the power adapter, which you seem to like to call a charging cable, is OK.

Thank you for your response. I don't have the computer in front of me at the moment, so as soon as I can, I will post the Product name and number.

The LED does not come on when the power adapter is connected to the notebook.

That would mean that one of three things are likely.

1) broken DC port on the notebook

2) failed charging circuit in the notebook's system board

3) faulty power adapter.

The LED is actually a diagnostic for the power adapter
