I try to charge a Pavilion 17-cd207ng using the HP USB-C Dock G5
From what I see in the specs, both support Power Delivery. The Dock can provide up to 20V 5A, so it would charge slower (Pavilion is delivered with 150W PS) but it should work at least. However, the notebook does not recognize any charger at all. From what I know it should display a waringn message, if charging power is to low, but it just does nothing. Everything else connected to the dock (display, network, usb) is working fine.
I also tried a different dock (HP G4) with exactly the same result.

Welcome to HP Community
I have gone through your Post and would like to help
You cannot charge the Notebook through the USB Type-C. You can connect devices to the USB Type-C and charge them like phones smart watches etc, but it does not work the other way round
Thank you

Hi KrazyToad, thanks for your help.
HP should really, really be more specific ob this topic! The notebook is announced to support "USB Power Delivery 3.0." and it's virtually impossible to find out, that notebook charging is excluded (which is part of the usb-c PD specification).
Even if you read the whole manual, it stays obscure. It's just that notebook charging is not mentioned as a function of the usb-c port, which doesn't necessarily mean, it is not supported (BTW, In the specification section usb-c input power is actually mentioned! )
Very disappointing!
