HP Laptop 15-bs1xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

This has happened around 3 times now. I have a one year old Laptop and at times, when charging, my laptop shows to be fully charged (white/grey light) although it isn't fully charged. Today, the same happened and I opened my laptop to know that it wasn't fully charged but was rather at 55%.

I have run System and Component HP tests, and everything looks fine. There are no issues detected.

Hi! @AyeshaTariqAli,

Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.

Have you tried charging your laptop using a different adapter or battery?

Were there any recent windows update on the PC?

Please try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

Check the BIOS (F.34 and later) to confirm the setting is set to Full Charge, if it is not, change the BIOS setting to Full Charge.

Power on the unit.
Press F10 to enter the BIOS.
Select the Power option.

Full Charge: The battery charge stops at 91~100%.
Extended Life of Battery Pack: The battery charge stops at 76~80%.
Optimize Life of Battery Pack: The battery charge stops at 46~50%.

Save changes and exit the BIOS.

If the above steps do not fix the issue, upgrade the BIOS to the latest version using HP support assistant.

Refer this article to know more information about using the HP support assistant. Click Here

Also, try the steps recommended below.

Remove the AC adapter and discharge battery capacity to 10 percent or lower.
Re-connect the AC adapter and check if the battery can be charged to 95 to 100 percent (95 to 100% is normal).
If upgrading to F.45 does not fix the issue, replace the battery.
If replacing the battery does not resolve the issue, follow the standard repair process to get the issue resolved.

Run Power Troubleshooter.

On Cortana, enter  Troubleshooter then select Troubleshooting.
Click Improve power usage to open the window, then click Next.
This should run the troubleshooter and can fix any detected issues. You may try restarting your computer and charge your battery again.

Let me know how it goes!

Take Care! 🙂

The product is: 2UE54UA#ABA

I do not have a different adapter or battery.

It has been a while since any updates, but the laptop is up to date.

All sorts of troubleshooters show that both the battery and adapter are functioning well.

Please note that the light issue hasn't really occurred again, however, I was a bit concerned about the fast draining of the battery. This has occurred fairly recently, I thought that I could use the laptop on battery for at least 5 to 6 hours, but the discharging rate is now almost 1% per minute despite all steps taken such as the power plan, brightness adjustment etc. (I have reviewed posts about that in detail)

The battery drain issue is the major concern right now, and it did start after a HP BIOS update. My laptop is currently running the most up to date BIOS though.

A command-prompt-initiated Battery Test does seem to show that the battery is obviously becoming old, but not sure if that points out to it discharging faster. I can PM you the Test if required.
