My laptop’s charging port started smoking while plugged in the other day. Part of the black plastic around the charger melted in the charging port so now the port and charger need to be replaced.
Where would I get the charging port replaced and does anyone have a link to the correct part on a site like Amazon/eBay/Walmart? Is this charging port soldered to the motherboard or would I be able to replace it myself?
Alternatively, could I use the USB-C port to charge the laptop instead of replacing the standard port? I can only find USB-C chargers up to 100W. My previous charger was 135W and used the standard circular keyhole port.

The Maintenance & Service guide for your laptop (for parts reference see the illustrated parts catalog chapter 3)

The power cable has the port and it is just a matter of removing the old one and plugging in the new unit.
Power connector cable L95627-001
Here it is at Amazon.com for about $30.00.
https://www.amazon.com/L95627-001-M08169-S16-POWER-CABLE-15-EB1043DX/dp/B0B81391TS
That can be done at a laptop/PC shop.
Here is the part description and part number
135 W HP Smart AC adapter (PFC, RC, slim, 4.5 mm) L15534-001
Newegg.com has the power supply at almost half the price that Amazon has it listed for.
https://www.newegg.com/p/1B4-001S-0AE68
On eBay for around $20.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/145173808305?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28
About using a USB Type-C port, that is a maybe.
Generally, if a laptop was delivered with a power adapter that has a barrel type connector, that is what should be used.
Here is a search I did for the part
