I have a new Probook 450G5, gen8 i7 CPU and HP 3005PR USB3 Port Replicator and am unable to get the laptop to charge via the USB port, always have to have power supply and replicator connected and thought I would only need to connect the 1 USB C cable from the base

No, you acn't use USB 3.0 port replicator to charge your notebook. The 3005pr specs

You have to use 2 PSU's, one for port replicator and one for your 450 G5.
