Envy 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an Envy 15 laptop that refuses to charge while the computer is on. I see the orange light on the side when the system is off and usually within minutes the light goes off. Unsure if this is a charger, hardware, or software issue.

Also I borrowed a charger for an HP Pavilion to see if the charger was the issue and the charger does work when the system is on, but it displays the white "full" light and the battery icon does not acknowledge a charge. When the system is off it appears to charge normally.

Throughout different forums I have seen similar issues but no true resolution. One resolution I did see for the issue I had with the Pavilion charge was to remove the physical battery, hard reset, then reinstall. At this point that may be my only option.

Thanks for any help.

Hi! @Mjsaxo,

Have you tried charging your laptop using a different adapter or battery?

Were there any recent windows update on the PC?

Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.

Try updating the BIOS and other drivers on the PC to the latest version using HP support assistant and check if it helps.

Refer this article to know more information about using the HP support assistant. Click Here

Please try the steps recommended below.

Step 1. Go to Device Manager
Step 2. Select Batteries
Step 3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 4. Click Uninstall
Step 5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
Step 6. Shutdown the computer

Step 7: Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in

Try performing a hard reset on the laptop and check if it helps.

Turn off the computer.
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
For most laptops, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to reset.
If your laptop model is listed below, use the instructions specific to your computer.
Plug the AC adapter back into the laptop computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
The computer starts normally or a startup menu opens.
If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.
After Windows opens, reconnect each peripheral device that was disconnected, one device at a time, until all devices are reconnected.

Run Power Troubleshooter.

On Cortana, enter  Troubleshooter then select Troubleshooting.
Click Improve power usage to open the window, then click Next.
This should run the troubleshooter and can fix any detected issues. You may try restarting your computer and charge your battery again.

Lastly, try running a battery test from the F2 system diagnostics page and check if the hardware components on the PC are functioning correctly.
