Spectre x360 13" Gem Cut
Linux

Hi everyone,

I've got the HP Spectre x360 13" Gem cut with the 65 watt brick. Here's a picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2uiero3wg9a099q/20190301_102350.jpg?dl=0

It's nice and compact, however it has a huge thick 3 pronged cord and of course can only charge the laptop itself.

I'm looking for an option like this: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerPort-Charger-Charge-PowerIQ/dp/B01N2HIR9R

I actually have that Anker product but it doesn't charge the laptop. I've read this is an issue with the HPs, but I'm hoping there is something out there that will work. I'm astonished that HP hasn't opened up the charging mechanisms on this laptop. The whole point of USB-C charging is standardization, and I'm very dissapointed.

I did find this: https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-usb-c-travel-power-adapter-65w but it actually seems bigger than what the laptop came with, and again, only charges one device.

As a note, I have found some options for slimming down the provided charger.

The first is this: https://www.amazon.com/XPS13-Laptop-Adapter-Folding-Charger/dp/B01GYFMLCY

I'm not sure how well it would fit, but it appears to remove the need for ground from the NEMA connector, provides the correct 7A 125V, and it seems to measure closely to the HP brick size. I might give it a try just to see what happens.

And then there is: https://www.amazon.com/SF-Cable-5-15P-Power-adapter/dp/B004OH3S3G

It's basically a more generic NEMA to 3-prong adapter.

I'm in the same situation as you are. The Anker charger that you linked does not have power delivery option. Assuming the charger that you own does not have this option as well. I haven't got any of those yet (ordered the 60watt one; waiting for delivery), but those would be some of the options since I believe laptop needs only 45 watt for normal charging. If you want to try other chargers, make sure that they support Power Delivery option and provide at least 45 watt of power. Also make sure that your USB C cable is supporting PD as well. Anker sells those cables too.

You could even try something like

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerPort-Certified-Foldable-Delivery/dp/B0721DV7YX/ref=sr_1_4?keywords...

or

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DFGKFM3/ref=sr_1_10?camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B07DFGKFM3...

It's 30 watt only, so the charging would obviosly be slower.

I will have to take a look at those, thanks for the response. As a note, I have tried out the two items listed above to make the included charger more portable.

First up, the NEMA to 3-prong US plug. This, as expected, works perfectly.

Though, it is not the best looking option.

The XPS13 adapter is near perfect. However, I had to use a drill bit and a file to "cut out" between the two top circles so it could attach to the HP brick perfectly. There is a notch, but it's not standard NEMA, it's a square notch instead of curved. This was very easy to do, and could be done with just a file. Once installed, it is near the perfect size, and the fold out 2-prong adapater is perfect. This is what I'm using going forward for now.
