I purchased this laptop. 15-fd0023dx.
HP - 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i3 - 8GB Memory - 256GB SSD - Natural Silver
Can I use the USB-C port to charge it?
if so, what specifically do I need charger wise.

If it was delivered with a power adapter that has a barrel plug that plugs into a receptacle on the laptop, you should use it.
Entry level laptops are not delivered with the bells and whistles and fancy things like USB Type-C charging.

You can try it if you like, since the risk and laptop are yours

Sorry that I can't always provide answers that people like. I do base my answers in reality.
My own HP Spectre laptop charges with a USB Type-C power adapter because it was designed to be charged that way.
Your laptop was not and it is not something that you can change.
What I provided you with was actual honest and accurate information.
You are asking about charging a factory built laptop in a manner that is different from its design.
That does involve risk.
I wish for you the best of success in finding an answer that makes you happy..

You should ONLY post an answer when you can actually answer the question. I asked if I could use the USB-C. All your reply says is that you don't know. Don't post answers unless you know.
FYI, it is not about whether I like your answer or not. If you had said it will destroy the laptop or it will work fine, either would have been fine. Jumping onto a post and saying "who knows" its your risk, is just worthless.

That is the answer that we, as HP Experts, were given by the HP Subject matter experts when we posed the question in the Inner Circle.
OK. I just read one of the thread discussions we had in the Inner Circle about the subject.
Sleep & Charge and Alt mode are required to be able to charge by way of a USB Type-C port.
I will take a look at the specification of your laptop to see if they conform.
Your laptop's port specifications do not conform
Ports Audio-out (headphone)/audio-in (microphone) combo jack
AC Smart Pin adapter
HDMI v1.4b + HDCP 2.0 supporting 1080p up to 1920 × 1080 @ 60 Hz
USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports (2)
USB 3.2 Type-C® Gen1 port, supports data transfer
So the answer in your laptop's case is a no.
My apologies for not having looked more closely at the specifications.
