My laptop's charging light is flashing and the computer won't turn on. I did static electricity discharge, RAM cleaning, etc. but the problem wasn't solved, what should I do?

Hi @Lmaoo,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop's charging light is flashing and it won’t turn on, even after trying static discharge and RAM reseating, here are the most reliable steps to troubleshoot the issue.

1. Hard Reset (Static Discharge)

You mentioned trying this, but here’s the full method to ensure it’s done correctly:

  • Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 30–60 seconds.
  • Reconnect only the charger (no battery).
  • Try turning it on.

2. Check the Charger and Power Port

  • Use the original HP charger.
  • Make sure the charger is rated correctly (voltage and amperage).
  • Try a different HP-compatible charger if available.
  • Inspect the charging port for dust or damage.

3. Check the LED Blink Pattern

  • Count the number of blinks and their color (amber/white).
  • Refer to HP’s LED blink code guide to decode the issue.

4. Remove and Reseat RAM (again)

  • Power off and unplug the laptop.
  • Remove the RAM sticks.
  • Clean the contacts with a soft eraser or an alcohol wipe.
  • Reseat them firmly in their slots.

5. Try BIOS Recovery (if supported)

Some HP laptops support BIOS recovery via a key combo:

  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B for 10 seconds.
  • If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
