Hello HP Support,
I have the HP EliteBook 820 G3 Notebook,
- Produktnummer: T9X46EA & seriel number [edited].
Outstanding notebook! However I have spend some time on trying to charge the pc battery through the USB C connector on the right side, but nothing happens, even with an original HP power pack plus 18000. Also it sems that nothing is comming out of the port, if I try to charge a cell phone going from USB C to micro USB?
I suppose that the idea was that you should be able to charge the pc from a normal reasonable power bank wia USB C?
Is there a sw driver update available or what is the situation? 🙂
Best regards
Jacob

Its not a driver thing. USB-C is not any one standard thing. Ports can do data only, data plus power out, alt display port, thunderbolt and can accept a charge to the battery or any combination thereof and all are considered USB-C ports.
In your case, the 820 G3, HP describes the USB-C port as
USB basic type-C
That means all it will do is transfer data. Here is the source of my information:

Pardon my sudden intrusion.
The USB-C port on the Elitebook 820 G3 indeed does not have any ability to accept power. It is even unlikelier considering that the laptop uses a proprietary barrel charging port. Not many USB-C power banks have the ability to charge USB-C laptops anyway.
However, connecting your device using the USB-C port should work, in theory. The port is described as having the ability to charge other devices, upon further inspection of the user guide. How are you establishing your connection?
USB-C port-> USB-C to USB A Adapter -> USB A to Micro USB cable -> Mobile Device
In the case that the above guess is correct, I would question the reliability of the adapter or cable.
Kind regards,
Eddy
