Hi @EvanBOi, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP laptop is experiencing an issue with power delivery while in use, possibly due to a failing charger, loose connection, or a hardware issue like a faulty power jack or battery. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check the Charger and Power Adapter

  • Inspect the charging cable for any signs of damage or fraying.
  • Ensure the adapter is securely plugged into both the laptop and the wall outlet.
  • Try using a different power outlet or surge protector.
  • If possible, test with a different compatible charger to see if the issue persists.

Inspect the Charging Port

  • Check for dust or debris inside the charging port and clean it gently using compressed air.
  • Wiggle the charging plug slightly—if it feels loose, the power jack inside may be damaged and require repair.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Press F2 repeatedly while turning it back on to enter HP Diagnostics.
  • Run the Battery Test and AC Adapter Test to check for any detected issues.

Update BIOS and Power Drivers

  • Go to Device Manager → Expand Batteries.
  • Right-click on Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and choose Uninstall. Then restart your laptop.
  • Visit the HP Support website, enter your laptop model, and check if a BIOS update is available. If yes, update it carefully.

Test Without Battery (If Removable)

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, try running it with just the charger plugged in. If it works fine, the battery may need replacement.

Check Power Settings

  • Go to Control PanelPower Options.
  • Change your plan settings and ensure Power Saver Mode is not restricting charging.
  • Disable Fast Startup:
    • Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do.
    • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable and uncheck Turn on fast startup.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Shut down your laptop.
  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and charger, then turn on the laptop.

Consider a Battery Replacement

If the issue persists, your battery may be faulty or reaching the end of its lifespan.
