Hello,
I purchased a factory reconditioned Chromebook 14 a few months ago (3/24/2016). Today, I plugged the chromebook in for a little extra power (battery at 64% at the time). I noticed that the charging indicator on the battery icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen didn't turn on. I then unplugged the power cable and plugged it back in. The indicator light on the side of the chromebook (next to the power barrel) didn't turn on. After moving the charging cable to 3 different outlets in the house (all of which were confirmed working by other power-using devices), I have determined that the problem is indeed with the Chromebook (or the power cable). At this point, the battery is still around 60% and I have the chromebook powered off in case any diagnostic data is required.
Other forums I've looked through so far have asked for output from crosh on a battery test, which I have run. The output is below:
Welcome to crosh, the Chrome OS developer shell.
If you got here by mistake, don't panic! Just close this tab and carry on.
Type 'help' for a list of commands.
crosh> battery_test
No test length specified. Defaulting to 300 seconds.
Battery is discharging (64.98% left)
Battery health: 94.36%
Please wait...
Battery discharged 0.69% in 300 second(s).

Please assist. I am not sure if it's the charging cable, or the chromebook itself. The battery seems fine. It just seems to be an issue with the power input between the wall and the machine itself.

Here's the entire problem, end-to-end. I spoke to a Google Chromebook support member who walked me through a hard reset- both with the power cable plugged in and without. This ultimately did nothing. They transferred me to HP support. He verified that I didn't have another device with which to test the power cable, or another power cable with which to test the chromebook receiving power.
While on the phone, we discussed how this was a refurbished purchase with a 90 day warranty, and since it was day 91 (yes, the problem started the day after the 90 day warranty expired), I had 2 options - pay $43 plus tax and shipping for a new power cable, or pay $229 to send in the chromebook for servicing.
At that point, I decided I'd think about my options and call back later with a decision. Meanwhile, I went and perused amazon.com for power cable options and came across this:
It came in the mail yesterday, and I was able to verify that it works with my chromebook (Model 14-q039wm), and is indeed charging the chromebook just fine. My issue was resolved with a new power cable from amazon for $15.99 + shipping.
Thanks for the assistance in getting me to the Google representative!
