HP Chromebook x2 11 inch 11-da0000 (323K7AV)
Chrome OS

This is the third time I have the unit not recognize the keyboard. I don't remember the circumstances from the first occurrence but the last two times it has happened after a ChromeOS update and reboot. The unit does not see the keyboard at all. The first and second times it happened I was able to recover from the issue, but I don't recall what fixed the problem. This current (third) time I have not been able to recover, to get the unit to recognize the keyboard. If I connect the unit to my HP docking station, it will recognize my Logitech keyboard (wireless) connected to the docking station and everything works just fine. The unit will also work if I use it from the touch screen, it just won't recognize the keyboard. If it close the unit, it will recognize that action and lock the unit. When it opens it, it wakes up without problem, just no keyboard recognition. If the problem is the keyboard itself, is it possible to obtain a replacement and at what cost?

Hi @jcmatheson,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to have your HP Chromebook x2 11-da0000 suddenly stop recognizing its own keyboard, especially after a ChromeOS update, when everything should be running smoother, not glitching.

Here’s a gentle, step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

Chromebook Keyboard Not Recognized – What You Can Try

  1. Restart the Chromebook
Sometimes a simple restart can reinitialize the keyboard connection.
  2. Try Guest Mode
    • Sign out of your account.
    • Click Browse as Guest.
    • Test the keyboard in Guest Mode.
    • If it works here, your user profile might be corrupted. You can back up your data and create a new profile.
  3. Perform a Hard Reset
This resets the hardware connections without affecting your files.
    • Press and hold Refresh (⟳) and tap the Power button.
    • Release both keys when the Chromebook restarts.
  4. Run Diagnostics
    • Go to Settings > type Diagnostics in the search bar.
    • Select Input, then Internal Keyboard, and run the test.
  5. Factory Reset (Powerwash)
If nothing else works, a Powerwash might help.
    • Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings > Powerwash.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.
