Greetings,
I have a Compaq 6720s with 1GB RAM, and the Maintenance and Support Guide states it supports up to 4 GB of system RAM.
I got 2 x DIMMS 2GB each, but with 4GB Memory check fails with: Memory Test Error. Failed memory address: 3F7E8144 ; Pattern expected: AAAAAAAA; Pattern read: AA00AAAA.
I swapped the position of the DIMM, same result.
If I install a single DIMM (I tried both of them) all is fine.
Note: with 4GB it fails trying to boot OS (Windows x64 or CentOS x64), also trying to run Install CD
I already upgraded to BIOS = F.0D , ROM Date = 11/04/2008 , Video BIOS = 1471 , Keyboard controller = 83.0E .
Any suggestion?

Whenever I find a possible memory problem, I like to run Memtest over and over. Let it run at least two complete cycles. In order to do that, you need to boot to a non-Windows OS and then run the Memtest. Ultimate Boot CD can do that easily. Make the CD on another, working PC and then boot the problem PC. If you still cannot boot the PC, then there is a basic problem with the memory compatibility.
I'm not an HP employee.

Hi,
on the memory DIMM I see 2 x 2GB PC2-5300 DDR2 667MHz.
If I insert a single DIMM it works fine (tested both of them). Problem arise if I install BOTH of them in the PC (= 4GB).
The HP documentation says the 6720s supports up to 4 GB of system RAM, but I'm worring it really accept no more than 3GB ...
BIOS is the latest available...

I have the same problem with the 2x2gb ram upgrades using corsair modules VS4GSDSKIT800D2 which are suppose to be compatable. They both work 1 at a time but not both together. My bios is F.OD 11/4/2008.
Spoke to hp about the problem and they said the recommended modules were EM995AA.
Ive ordered a couple of the 2gigs so we will see !!!

So? No solution?!
I also have a Compaq 6720s, unable to boot with two DDR2-667 SO-DIMM of 2GB. According to the HP website, this model is able to support those 2.
It works with only one but that's not what we want. 2GB is not enough.
